Paper Machine O&M — Sixteen Lectures · System Map
Four parts: Common foundation → Utility systems → Grade-specific volumes → Management loop
1. How the system is organized
Paper-machine O&M knowledge naturally falls into three layers: Method (how to think — maintenance strategy, inspection, failure analysis), Object (what to fix — rolls, hydraulics, hoods, drives), and Paper grade (where to fix — graphic paper, board, tissue, pulp line; machine configurations differ, so do the accounts). Therefore this system is not arranged by 'textbook chapters' but by 'the order in which O&M staff encounter problems': first build the methodology foundation, then cross the cross-grade utility systems, then land the grade-specific volumes, and finally close with shutdown management and a knowledge map.
Inside each grade-specific volume there is a fixed three-piece kit: Operating procedure → Maintenance & inspection → Spare parts & consumables. This order matches the real usage scenario — first know how to run it, then how to repair it, and finally what to swap in when it breaks. No other structure is added beyond the kit, so volumes for the same grade can be flipped through using the same table of contents.

|---|---|---|
| Main axis | Process principle: the physical chemistry of paper from fiber to finished sheet | O&M in practice: how to run, repair, and manage spare parts for the paper machine |

Key takeaways
- The system is arranged in three layers — 'method → object → grade': Part A establishes methodology, Part B crosses utility systems, Part C lands by grade, and Part D closes the management.
- Each grade-specific volume has a fixed three-piece kit: operating procedure → maintenance & inspection → spare parts & consumables, corresponding to 'how to run / how to repair / what to swap in'.
- The six-segment manual skeleton (safety — data — principle — procedures — fault finding — parameters) is an industry convention; this series keeps its core but reorganizes it by usage order.
- Parts A and B are reusable across grades; Part C changes the account with the grade and is the most differentiated and experience-dependent part.
- This series and 'Paper's Depth' support each other: one explains principles, the other O&M, with direct cross-overs at rolls and the pulp line.
